The most potent fish oil on the market

1oz has over 18,318mg of Omega 3 fatty acids. Most of "the other oils" only have less than half Omega 3 fatty Acids, making Iceland Pure Premier Omega 32/24EE fish oil your best and only choice.

Flaxseed and flaxseed oil have been fed to horses for decades, primarily to improve coat condition of sales or show horses. Both flaxseed and flaxseed oil are rich sources of the essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is thought to convert to the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

For many years, the conversion of ALA to EPA and DHA was believed to be efficient. Now, however, a summary of omega-3 research by the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL) has questioned the ability of ALA to be changed in the body.
According to the summary, "conversion of ALA to EPA is very low, and to DHA is even less--essentially negligible. These very low conversion rates mean that ALA cannot meet the body's need for DHA."

I've been using your product for years for 2 of my horses with an eye condition. Dr. Tim Cutler, was a very good friend of ours and he introduced me to your product to use on 2 of my Grand Prix horses that had an eye condition. Until recently, I've only used it on the two horses with immune mediated keretitis, but now have had great results with a variety of other horses. I had always gotten the product through him--which is probably why you didn't know I've been using it for the last 3-4 years. Even my 14 yr old dog, Hannah, gets Iceland pure every day!

Scientific Research

Tom Brenna, MS, PhD, professor of nutritional sciences at Cornell University and chairman of the ISSFAL committee that assembled the summary, said, "Each type of omega-3 has distinct functional properties. Seafood/algal omega-3s, also known as long-chain omega-3s, are more potent than terrestrial plant sources of omega-3s and boast certain functions that terrestrial plant-based omega-3s simply cannot perform."

The summary reported that DHA levels in the body were raised most markedly by consuming "preformed" DHA, such as that found in marine-derived oils.

Although the aforementioned summary included studies involving primarily humans, what impact does this research have on supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids to horses? Foremost, horsemen might look beyond flaxseed for an effective omega-3 supplement. One alternative is oil derived from certain cold-water fish. Fish oil is a direct source of EPA and DHA, so the question of whether or not ALA can efficiently be converted to EPA and DHA becomes obsolete.

Understanding our Premier Omega 33/24EE Super Oil

Triglyceride vs. Ethyl Esters

Fish oils,  naturally contain triglycerides with DHA and EPA. When the fish undergoes purification process through "molecular distillation," the fatty acids become liberated and become the ethyl ester free form.

Some fish oil products synthesize the ethyl ester form back into triglyceride form in hopes of preserving the original oil content and reportedly for better stability to sit for longer periods on the store shelves.

However, many other companies, including many pharmaceutical companies, maintain the purified ethyl ester form. But which of the two is better?

If you do research on these two forms, and get past all of the technical mumbo-jumbo, you will probably agree that:

1. Both are good...

2. However the omega 3 acid ethyl ester form actually is more advantageous.

Here's why.

3. Omega 3 ethyl ester fish oil is bio-available

In order for the body to use fatty acids such as DHA or EPA, they must first be liberated into ethyl ester (EE) form. The EE form is what we could think of as the "pre-digested" form of oil that is readily absorbed by the body.

Detailed studies on this oil absorption have indicated that the EE fish oil form may be more bio-available and more readily processed by the cells and incorporated into cell membranes.

Ethyl ester form maintains freshness

Since this form is easier to assimilate, it is less likely to cause that rancid odor and less likely to give you that fishy burp. Omega 3 acid EE can maintain freshness even longer than triglyceride-based fish oil supplements.

The EE form is supported by scientific research

Compared to triglyceride form, it is backed by more scientific and clinical research studies and papers. It is also the form that is often preferred for high doses of DHA and EPA.

This is not to say though that the triglyceride form is not effective. In fact, triglyceride omega 3 fish oils are actually very effective. In many studies, the EE form produced similar or better clinical results compared to the triglyceride form. In one study, even at equal concentrations, the EE form showed better results in lowering triglycerides and reducing platelet aggregation. This is not a sweeping and exhaustive study but it does give a good indication that the EE form is superior.

What are omega 3 acid EE and what does this all mean to you when you choose fish oil supplements? The truth is, both triglyceride and ethyl ester fish oil supplements produce health benefits because they are rich in DHA and EPA.
